SME Synergy i hifi-news.“SME has out-engineered itself with the Synergy. Its combination of refinement, detail, stability and scale ensures that this turntable sounds just sublime.”

SME Model 30/2 i Stereophile.“I ended my review of SME’s Model 10 with “Can SME’s $22,000 Model 30 really be that much better?” The answer is “Yes!” Overall, the SME Model 30/2 is the best turntable I’ve heard.”

SME Model 15 i hifi+. “There is no doubt that the Model 15 is very much an SME turntable. The Model 15 has very little character of its own, which means that it can reveal an awful lot about the records it spins. Build quality is in another league to the vast majority of turntables because so few manufacturers have the engineering facilities that a company which provides precision engineering to the aerospace and medical industries can offer”

SME Model 15 i hifi-news. “For just over £5000 without arm, you will acquire a piece of ‘functional sculpture’ that will reward not just your hearing, but the senses of touch and sight (the Model 15 is simply flawless on every surface).  No kidding: you’ll stare at this thing into the wee hours, continually finding details that delight. And as for the sound? That will keep you up all night, too… The world is awash with delightful turntables at all price points, but this is the world’s best deck below £10k”

SME 20/3 i hifi-news. “Each and every song sounded fresh, full, rich, as if it were a live performance… With no cuteness, no hyperbole, I must admit ‘When I Fall in Love’ aptly describes the first moment I heard the SME Model 20/3.”

SME Model 15A – Editors Choice i hifi+

“The sound that the Model 15A produces when equipped with a Transfiguration Proteus moving coil is extraordinarily calm and clean – the notes literally come out of an inky black background like magic. I put on Bugge Wesseltoft’s Trialogue [Jazzland] and was struck by the way that the percussion notes in particular had a solidity and presence in the context of such a quiet background.”

Jason Kennedy, hifi+

SME Model 12A – Outstanding!

“It delivered the sort of visceral thump only a true high-end turntable is capable of, the stylus feeling as if it was nailed down into the groove.”

“This is a no-nonsense, compact, user-friendly package that will cut to the heart of the musical mix to reward with a sound that’s taut, precise and highly detailed. Add the superlative build quality and you have a package that punches far above its weight when it comes to value for money.”

Build quality is in another league to the vast majority of turntables because so few manufacturers have the engineering facilities that a company which provides precision engineering to the aerospace and medical industries can offer. It may not have as many feet as the bigger models, but that does little to undermine its capabilities when it comes to resolving all the fine details locked away in a vinyl groove.”

SME Model 20/3 - Super SME!

So well-conceived are SMEs that each model is embarrassingly close to the ‘next one up’. The middle-of-the-range 20/3 is so like a dearer 30, bar the 30’s extreme bass and quietness, that you need a mind-blowingly revealing system to appreciate its costlier siblings. The 30/2 remains my all-time favourite but, as of now, the ModeI 20/3 ,s the best-value deck in the range. lndeed, a masterpiece.

SME Model 20/3A – Editors Choice' award 2020

“This improvement upon the middle model in SME’s lineup now brings it so close to the flagship 30/3 that it’s doubtful their performances can be reliably distinguished on even the highest-resolution setups. Stability, control, and neutrality triangulate the virtues of this and every other SME setup, with an extraordinary impression of foundation plus a deep, deep background blackness that very few competitors can approach, let alone surpass. Built like all SMEs to the highest standards, this setup will last a lifetime.”

Paul Seydor, The Absolute Sound

SME Model 20/12A – Editors Choice' award 2020

“Alastair Robertson-Aikman’s last ’table was designed as an overall system to accommodate SME’s lightweight, yet rigid, 12″ magnesium tonearm. With its jet-black backgrounds, ultra-low tracing distortion, superb isolation, precise speed accuracy, and rock-solid stability, this reference turntable system has an effortlessness and sense of rightness that are mesmerizing. If you insist on using a shorter ’arm, try a different SME ’table.”

JH, The Absolute Sound

SME Model 30/2A – Editors Choice' award 2020

“Mounted with the SME Series V ’arm, the 30/2A impressed PS with its tonal neutrality, pitch accuracy, resolution, transparency, rhythmic grip, ambience, low coloration, and soundstaging. He concluded that its specialness “lies in three related areas of sonic performance: background silence, dynamics, and that elusive impression of liveliness that persuades you the music has come alive in your living room.”

Paul Seydor, The Absolute Sound

SME Synergy i HiFi News.

”The effect was rather like the auto-focus on a digital camera locking on to the subject – things fall into place and make complete sense, not just individually, but as a whole. SME has out-engineered itself with the Synergy. Its combination of refinement, detail, stability and scale ensures that this turntable sounds just sublime.”

SME Model 12A – SME at its best

“Moreover, minute changes in the timing of musician were rarely before so clearly revealed, their distances seldom depicted more vividly on the wide but perfectly staggered stage.”

“This record player always gives its owner the impression of highest quality – in handling as well as in listening. And all of that in this very attractive finish. The Model 12 is simply SME at its best!”
